The committee report notes that it would take a lot of organization and a lot of work hours to institute a daily herd check. \u00a0But if we did it once\/week, midweek — Weds? — during the non-feeding season, that would be only one herd check per year per member horse space. \u00a0I think that is worth a try.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Seems like a very good idea – I u sually look around when I’m there anyway. \u00a0You never know when one of the horses might need our help.<\/p>\n

In favor of herd checks<\/h3>\n

Herd checks can only benefit our horses. I am in favor of incorporating herd checks into OHA practices in non-feeding months. Perhaps we handle these checks similarly to the way we handle feeding–each member is responsible for a certain number of herd checks above their work hour requirement, choose days and must sign out that they’ve checked the herd. I suggest we start with checks twice a week.<\/p>\n
