It<br \/>\nseemed particularly appropriate to look back on the eve of our 30th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">Loren Furtado has done a wonderful job of capturing the distinctive<br \/>\ncharacteristics of the OHA and placing it in a broader historical context. On behalf of<br \/>\nthe OHA board and membership I want to extend a profound `thank you&#8217; to Loren Furtado for<br \/>\nhis year-long effort creating this account. In enjoying our inheritance may we be worthy<br \/>\nof the trust and hopes placed by those who went before, and preserve and enhance it for<br \/>\nthose who follow.<\/p>\n<p><i>Fred Goff <\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>President, Orinda Horseman&#8217;s Association<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i>September 10, 1997<\/i><\/p>\n<h1 align=\"CENTER\"><!--mstheme--><span style=\"color: #666633;\"><b>The Story of the Orinda Horseman&#8217;s Association <!--mstheme--><\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"A-Brief-History-1968-to-1997-\" align=\"CENTER\"><!--mstheme--><span style=\"color: #666633;\"><i>A Brief History 1968 to 1997 <!--mstheme--><\/i><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><i><br \/>\n<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The Orinda Horseman&#8217;s Association is a non-profit, tax exempt California Corporation,<br \/>\nestablished in December 1968 to provide a legal entity to lease property from the East Bay<br \/>\nMunicipal Utilities district for the purpose of grazing horses belonging to members of the<br \/>\nassociation. The Franchise Tax Board, on 9\/21\/70, advised the OHA, that as a social and<br \/>\nrecreational organization, it was exempt from state franchise or income taxes. The<br \/>\nAssociation grazes approximately 38 horses on the leased property and pays a fee to EBMUD<br \/>\nadjusted to the annual changes in the price of livestock.
