We can enter through the gate there but must bring our horses out through another gate.\u00a0 Thanks for Richard<\/b> for arranging with EBMUD to build this electric fence.<\/p>\n Document Teasle Cutting<\/b><\/p>\n Richard<\/b> negotiated getting reimbursement from EBMUD for every person hour we work cutting teasle.\u00a0\u00a0 Please make sure to document your work hours when cutting teasle.<\/p>\n Replacement Gate<\/b><\/p>\n Thank you Lens<\/b> for replacing the broken gate at the pavilion.<\/p>\n Water Line to Trough at Pavillion Broken<\/b><\/p>\n The water line from the ring pasture to the pavilion is broken.\u00a0 To fill a trough at the pavilion, you must turn on the valve at the hose bid next to the ring pasture gate next to the road.\u00a0 Make sure to close it when you are done as, otherwise, water will spill out of the hole in the pipe.<\/p>\n Long\u2019s Yearlings Back Again This Year<\/b><\/p>\n The Longs will have their yearlings back again this year.\u00a0 Unfortunately, this is the same time we will have our horses in the Upper Pasture.\u00a0 Mrs. Long has put more fencing on her fence to make it safer for her horses.\u00a0 If you see any problems, please contact Mrs. Long or the Lower Pasture pasture manager.<\/p>\n Unrenewed Associate and Partner Memberships Expire<\/b><\/p>\n Please remind your associate members and riding partners too.\u00a0 Otherwise, they will not renew.\u00a0 Associate members must pay $50\/year and partners $25\/year.\u00a0 Payment is due June 15th<\/sup><\/span>.\u00a0 Kim<\/b> will remove them off the membership list June 15th if they do not renew.<\/p>\n Letting new horse out<\/b><\/p>\n Please do not let your new horses out before they have been quarantined a full two weeks.\u00a0 Also, please warn people before you do let them out as some members may want to make extra trips up to check on their horses.\u00a0 Two horses were injured this week due to the new horse.\u00a0 Please communicate and consider others!<\/p>\n Move Horses at Designated Time<\/b><\/p>\n Please move the horses with other members at 10am on moving day.\u00a0 If you have a last minute emergency, you may ask another member to help you move your horse.\u00a0 This is why we are called a cooperative!\u00a0 Ask for help, and you will get it.\u00a0 Letting your horse out earlier or forgetting to move your horse can cause injury to horses and members.<\/p>\n Ring<\/b><\/p>\n Thank you Ginny<\/b> for researching the options for recovering the ring.\u00a0 Details are attached.\u00a0 Richard<\/b> will ask EBMUD if they have any contractors who may sell us sand and the under-cover for a good price.\u00a0 EBMUD did not have any spare sand to give use however.\u00a0 Kim<\/b> will get bids.\u00a0 Nina<\/b> is going to help Kim<\/b> solicit anonymous donations from members.\u00a0 If we don\u2019t raise enough money, we may just cover the outer track of the ring for starters.<\/p>\n Ring Board Removal<\/b><\/p>\n Should we remove two sections of the lower portion of the ring fence to enable ring toys to be moved easily to and from the ring?<\/p>\n Motion #1<\/b> Move to allow Liz<\/b> to remove two boards from the lower section of the ring fence to move polls in and out of ring easily.\u00a0 Not passed<\/b> 2\/3.<\/p>\n Maintaining a Level Ring<\/b><\/p>\n When you use the ring, please try and stay off the track so that the ring remains level.\u00a0\u00a0 You can still work your horse a equal distance from the fence if you wish, but please try and choose a new track.\u00a0 Otherwise, the ring will not be level and horses can trip on the uneven footing.<\/p>\n Ramp<\/b><\/p>\n Richard will check with EBMUD to see if they have any spare gravel to give us.\u00a0 We will build a ramp to the manure shed from gravel so that farm equipment can approach it as well as wheel barrows.<\/p>\n Motion #2?<\/p>\n Stall Improvement<\/b><\/p>\n There was some discussion about putting new boards in the center of the pavilion stalls to replace the worn out, broken ones.\u00a0 Some board members were concerned that old railroad ties would not be suitable because creosote is toxic.\u00a0 Pressure treated wood is too.\u00a0 Also, there was some discussion about improving the drainage in the old stalls in the saddling area.\u00a0 We may put gravel in those as the gravel the Furtados<\/b> put in the Pavillion stalls a few years ago did a load of good.<\/p>\n Put Old Hay Somewhere Else?<\/b><\/p>\n Some members are concerned about the airborne mold emanating from the rotting hay in the ring pasture.\u00a0 We are considering other locations rather than ring pasture so that horses don\u2019t munch on bad hay in the ring pasture.<\/p>\n Float in Double Stall in Pavillion<\/b><\/p>\n Richard will ask the Pinedas to\u00a0 put a float back in the trough in the double stall in the pavilion when they fix the broken pipe.\u00a0\u00a0 There used to be one there and it was quite handy.<\/p>\n Pear Orchard<\/b><\/p>\n This is your friendly yearly reminder to understand need to graze down this area.\u00a0 Please keep horses out of the Pear Orchard only if there is a valid medical excuse to do so.\u00a0 Start dieting now if weight is a concern.\u00a0 Remember, that you must apply by letter to the board to have your horse exempt from Pear Orchard grazing duty.<\/p>\n Pavement<\/b><\/p>\n Please remember to park off pavement in or outside the gate at El Toyonal.\u00a0 This is especially important as we enter the high fire season this year.\u00a0 Fire trucks must be able to pass through this road to help residents in West Orinda.\u00a0 Also, trailers can \u201cclip\u201d your car if they are trying to get through a narrow passage or make a turn into the pavilion.\u00a0 This is the second reminder and some members have not complied.<\/p>\n \n Additional Notes<\/b><\/p>\n Fiddleneck season \u2013 please pick any fiddleneck you see.\u00a0\u00a0 This is the season and there are spots in the pasture where it is growing.\u00a0 Call Fred<\/b> if interested.<\/p>\n Morris\u2019s<\/b> space due to be filled May 8th<\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n Loree\u2019s<\/b> leave of absence ending Johnson.\u00a0\u00a0 Beverly James <\/b>attended.<\/b><\/p>\n \n Minutes for the February 26th meeting needed no additional clarification.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n AGP and Why All These Moves?<\/b><\/p>\n This is EBMUD\u2019s plan to reduce weeds and promote grass growth.\u00a0 EBMUD\u2019s pasture manager, Rod Tripp, wants more pasture rotation.\u00a0 When we do the rotation from UPO to LPO, we will need a fence to allow access to the water without allowing horses to go back into the LPO.<\/p>\n \n USR Development<\/b><\/p>\n \n We discussed the Long\u2019s objection to southern access.\u00a0 We are looking into other access option.\u00a0 Beverly will ask EBMUD representative, Penny, to resolve.\u00a0 Cost of building the fence still $450 too high.\u00a0 Beverly will look at re-contacting a contractor EBMUD believes will be less expensive.\u00a0 We also still need volunteers to pull out extra barbed wire and are also considering use of a metal detector.<\/p>\n \n Oakland Hills Ride Needs Volunteers<\/b><\/p>\n The ride is 60 miles this year instead of 50 and as a result, more people are needed.\u00a0 Call Laura Fend, 925-935-8147, if you would like to volunteer.\u00a0 We are loaning our trailer for them to haul manure away from the ride.<\/p>\n \n Easy Work Hours<\/b><\/p>\n Volunteers needed to move poop to front to prepare manure to be moved to ring by John Foughy.\u00a0 This way his back hoe can easily scoop it up and save on time and labor.<\/p>\n \n Manure Ramp<\/b><\/p>\n Need to reengineer a solution to the ramp because John Foughy (and others in the future) cannot access manure with farm equipment.\u00a0 Richard<\/b> is talking to Lens<\/b> about a way to make the ramp removable.\u00a0 We are considering a ramp from the back instead.<\/p>\n \n Associate Members and Their Own Horses<\/b><\/p>\n Should associate members be allowed to ride their own horses through OHA property?<\/p>\n Motion #1<\/b> Move to allow associate members to ride their own horses in OHA if they provide the current OHA president with a declaration of an up-to-date vaccination for the horse.\u00a0 Passed<\/b> 4\/0<\/p>\n \n Dogs on OHA<\/b><\/p>\n Members are concerned about some members repeatedly ignoring rules about dogs.\u00a0 This is especially problematic in the upper pasture when they are loose and run after horses.\u00a0 Also, it is problematic if they are tied up or locked in a car barking and disturbing the peace of riders and horses.\u00a0 Please consider others when bringing your dog to the pasture.<\/p>\n \n Ring Sand<\/b><\/p>\n Should we accept anonymous donations to add up to 370 cubic yards of sand to the ring?\u00a0\u00a0 The ring is down to bedrock now.<\/p>\n Motion #2<\/b> Move to solicit anonymous donations from pasture members to purchase and spread sand in the ring.\u00a0\u00a0 Donations would be used only to buy and spread sand.\u00a0 This would not include base drainage, grading, sprinkler system or boards along ring edge.\u00a0 Passed<\/b> 4\/0.\u00a0 Kim<\/b> will work with Ginny<\/b> on this.\u00a0 Kim\/Ginny<\/b> will ask for anonymous donations.\u00a0 Kim<\/b> will get a bid from John Foughy to spread it out.\u00a0 The rest of the proceeds would be used to buy the sand.\u00a0 Diamond K may be able to give us a good price on sand.\u00a0\u00a0 Richard<\/b> will ask EBMUD if they We have $7,240.97 in checking.\u00a0 The budget is looking good.<\/b><\/p>\n \n West Nile Virus<\/b><\/p>\n West Nile Virus is a serious virus that is now hitting horses in the East Coast.\u00a0 It is thought to be worse than EPS.\u00a0 The West Nile Virus is expected to come to California in May, 2002 according to Liz\u2019s source .
