Present Board members: Fred, Richard, Lisa J., Ginny., Bubs, Shirley and
\nHeather. Edie attended the latter portion of the meeting. The September
\nmeeting minutes and present agenda were approved before the meeting
\ncommenced.<\/p>\n
Fall Vet Clinics
\nClinics were held with all but one horse receiving appropriate shots at last
\ncount. Remember to give second strangles vaccines if you haven’t done so
\nalready. The dental clinics were not completed due to an illness in Ben
\nKoertje’s family and vet-dentist coordination difficulty. Instead of having
\none person assume the burden of scheduling for the remaining ten horses, we
\nrecommend that two to four people get together and arrange for the vet and
\ndentist to come at a convenient time. They are able to complete up to six
\nhorses if all goes well.<\/p>\n
Reminders<\/p>\n
* Johnny King keeps a horse on Dos Osos. At this time he has acquired a key
\nand is using El Toyonal, including the bridge, as his primary route to see
\nhis horse as he is unable to use other roads due to a restraining order. Be
\nprudent when interacting with him. Do not approach him in any way that could
\nbe perceived as threatening or antagonistic, or attempt to enforce road use
\nrules. Please let Fred know of any incidents involving Johnny at OHA.
\n* When truck feeding, throw hay off to the side of the fire road.
\n* A part of the responsibility of feeding the herd is to check on the horses.
\nIf they don’t come to the hay immediately, lure them, then count and check
\nthem.
\n* Write completed work tasks in book in a timely fashion.
\n* Pick up after horses and dogs in the saddling areas.
\nHorse Changes
\n* Frank at Moraga. The Board voted to give Leo a one time exception to stay
\nout of the pasture until March 1st for recovery of his injury as per Ginny’s
\nwritten request (this will put him over the 12\/24 month minimum of being on
\nthe pasture).
\n* New Members: Welcome three new members to OHA! Kim Zvik, Loree Cole and
\nElise Geske. Kim and Elise are actively looking for horses. Loree has a horse
\nthat she’s planning to introduce to the herd at some point in the
\nfuture.<\/p>\n
* EBMUD Report: Richard presented the semi-final manure bin quotes for cap
\nimprovements. The cost is considerably more than the amount allotted by
\nEBMUD. Richard will continue getting bids this week in an effort to reduce
\nthe cost. The Board discussed the possibility of financing the remainder of
\nthe structure along with other options. Unfortunately, EBMUD pays for cap
\nimprovements only if they are completed as originally planned by the
\nspecified date.
\n* Treasury Report: We currently have $6700.00 in the account with expected
\nexpenditures of hay and remainder of cap improvements project.<\/p>\n
* Work Update: Leak in lower pasture pipe repaired (Kim). Research shed
\nextension and rock delivery for parking (Lens). Palettes acquired and placed
\nfor delivery, bids for compost bin (Richard). Manure hauled (Tony, Bronwyn,
\nRichard). Star thistle hauled (Schaafs). Hay ordered to be delivered November
\n5th (Lisa J.). Constant road cleaning (Jane). Constant recycling (Heather
\nH.).<\/p>\n
* Disaster Plan: No member feedback re: emergency, battery operated cell
\nphone. Motion passed: OHA will purchase for a one year trial a pre-programmed
\n(20#) cell phone. It will be programmed with all of the emergency numbers
\nlisted in the shed and remaining numbers to be determined by Board vote at
\nnext meeting. The price is $250.00 for one year not including minutes in use.
\nThe phone will not work to call any number s other than those programmed.
\nThe Willis Lamm meeting took place and lasted for three hours. Another
\nmeeting at the pasture was held on 10\/16 to discuss disaster planning issues
\nspecific to OHAs needs.
\nKey: Robin Baron has placed a key to the red locks behind the oak tree
\nclosest to the hinge post near Mrs. Long’s fence line.<\/p>\n
* Rules and Regulations: The Board briefly reviewed the newly formatted R
\n& Rs worked on by Heather P. and yours truly. All agreed to make changes
\nand discuss in detail at the next meeting. The subject is at the top of the
\nagenda if anyone is interested in being there.<\/p>\n
* Application for proposed membership: The deadline for returning prospective
\nmembership application forms is up on 10\/15. Letters will be sent to those
\nthat returned the forms letting them know they were received. Those who did
\nnot return the forms will receive letters to varify that their names were
\nremoved from the list. As of 10\/15 the unofficial count of forms returned was
\n22. Quite a change from a list with 64 names!<\/p>\n
* New member categories: The Board discussed the possibility of a
\n“Riding Partner” membership category. Questions that arose included
\nthe following:
\n* Amount of fee
\n* Number of riding partners per member
\n* Whether to interview
\n* Legal requirements (papers to sign)
\nWe plan to finalize this information during the R & R discussion at the
\nnext meeting. Please call a Board member, write or e-mail with feedback. Or
\neven better, come to the meeting!<\/p>\n

\nagenda were approved before the meeting commenced. <\/b><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\nFall Vet Clinics<\/span><\/h5>\nFirst of all, keep in
\nmind this is a one off deal switching to intranasal strangles vaccine for
\nthose of you that choose to do so\u2026.\u00a0 All horses must see the vet for
\ntheir rabies shot in fall.\u00a0 Other fall shots include Flu-Rhino.\u00a0 As
\npassed last May, the strangles vaccine was moved to fall from spring.
\nThe new and safer intranasal vaccine is given the first time twice \u2013 three to
\nfour weeks apart. After that once a year is sufficient.\u00a0 This is the
\nlatest recommendation from Fort Dodge.\u00a0 There have been isolated cases
\nreaction with the intranasal attributed potentially to vaccination at the
\nsame time as intramuscular vaccines.\u00a0 Dr. Hansen chooses not to give
\nintranasals and intramuscular vaccines at the same time, whereas Dr. Parker
\nwill go with the horse owner\u2019s choice. Dr. Hansen recommended that he sell
\nall horse owners the intranasal vaccines and they administer themselves. The
\nbottom line includes the following choices:<\/b><\/p>\n \u00d8<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Have the vet
\ngive both intranasals for you.\u00a0 This means seeing Dr. Parker twice, or
\nseeing Dr. Hansen three times (once for intramuscular and twice for
\nintranasal). Or a combination of both for the amount of times needed.<\/b><\/p>\n\u00d8<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Give your own
\nintranasals (either both, or just the second after the vet gives the first)
\nafter purchasing them from the vet. This entails having knowledge of using a
\nsyringe and being comfortable with your thumb and a plastic tube in your
\nhorse\u2019s nostril.<\/b><\/p>\n\u00d8<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Continue to
\ngive the intramuscular injectable strangles vaccine (realizing the higher
\nreaction risk). You may have to purchase this through a catalogue as many
\nvets do not carry it any longer.<\/b><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n Clinic Dates:\u00a0 All

\nPlan. Proposed change included extending the date of Cap Imp completion
\n(manure composting bin) due to the late date of Plan\u2019s acceptance by EBMUD.<\/b><\/p>\nv<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>Treasury Report: Motion: OHA buy a copy of Quicken for Shirley not to
\nexceed $70.00. Passed unanimously.\u00a0\u00a0 This will allow Shirley to not
\nonly see what monies we have available, but also to continue keeping
\nexcellent up-to-date financial records.\u00a0 Report will be complete with
\namounts following software set-up.<\/b><\/p>\n\u00b7<\/span><\/b>
\n<\/span>Liz was paid the remainder for fly predators as voted on last meeting.<\/b><\/p>\n\u00b7<\/span><\/b>

\nis at least \u00bd empty.\u00a0 Horses kept in overnight are entitled to one flake
\nof hay per day.\u00a0 Horses taken out of the pasture are excluded from this
