\ninsurance policy was done. Board pointed out that all members should have their
\nown liability insurance, as that was [and is] not covered under the group
\npolicy.<\/p>\n
\u00a0OHA now considered a
\n“non-profit mutual benefit, ” from previous “non-profit.”<\/p>\n
\u00a0Membership
\ntransferred from co-owner to co-owner (new name Beatrice Shugrue).<\/p>\n
\u00a0Motion passed
\n(rule?): Jane motioned that people pay for a whole year whether their horse is
\nin or out of the pasture i.e., no casual members. Motion arose from a request
\nfrom an old member to bring a horse back temporarily for the summer.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Work hours motion
\npassed at GM meeting: 10 work hours per family and fee of $50.00. Members had
\ntill August to complete work hours. [I don\u2019t know where the 12 hours came from
\n\u2013 maybe a misprint.]<\/p>\n

\nletter about weed removal due to up-coming inspections. Spraying was done

\nunanimously with Bob L. abstaining: “In order to safeguard the positions
\nof other families on the waiting list ahead of said family, it was the decision
\nof the Board to create a new category of membership which is solely for the
\npurpose of sponsoring another member\u2019s horse. This associate membership will
\ncost the family $50.00 per year which does not apply to the eventual cost of a
\nfull membership. Becoming an associate member does not affect the position of a
\nfamily or individual on the waiting list. Associate membership will carry with
\nit all the responsibilities of a full membership, including the 10 hours yearly
\nof work and turns feeding.” Associate members to have all the rights
\nexcept bringing their own horse into the pasture. Associate membership will be
\nrenewable annually subject to review by the Board. No refunds of the annual fee
\nwill be made. Other expenses related to the horse will be agreed upon by the
\nowner and the sponsor. All requests will be made to the Board in writing and
\ndecided on a case by case basis [see minutes for details].<\/p>\n

February 1981:<\/p>\n

\u00a0Motion passed that a
\n$10.00 per month late charge be added for those who did not pay their dues on
\ntime as this was a regular occurrence.<\/p>\n
\u00a0A series of accidents
\nand trespassers prompted the following discussion: 1) Insurance \u2013 group has
\n$1,000,000 of liability, but individuals were not covered. Special meeting
\nplanned as soon as details were available. 2) Being alone \u2013 not recommended. 3)
\nPhones \u2013 member to assess the possibility of placing one near the Long\u2019s house
\nto defer the cost of running lines. 4) Decals \u2013 again pursued the
\n“possibility” of providing decals.<\/p>\n

\nto set the following procedures for new applicants: 1) “A group of at
\nleast three Board members will function as a membership committee with an
\nobligation to interview the new family or individual.” 2) “No keys
\nwill be given out until the new membership has been finalized by a) receipt by
\nthe new member of by-laws and rules and b) receipt by the Association of
\nappropriate payment and complete forms.”<\/p>\n

\nAt that point shots could be given by the owner, but tube worming was
\nmandatorily done by the vet. Six families had not attended either clinic.
\nMotion passed (rule?) that the owners would be notified that they must produce
\nevidence of shots and worming within two weeks, “or their horses removed
\nfrom the pasture.”<\/p>\n

\nadministrated. 2) Worming is of little value unless all horses in the herd are

\nprocedures have no place at all in the operation of an Association such as
\nours. On the contrary, we need to go out of our individual ways, if necessary,
\nto help and support one another for the good of all.”<\/p>\n

\nis the proprietary member\u2019s only horse, “the group feeding requirement
\nwill be satisfied by having either the owner or the sponsor take a turn, but

\nfrom the pasture during the time they are confined. This affects our AUM

\nfed to all others. If you want your confined horse fed by the group feeder put
\nthem in the North Corral. Feeders are instructed not to feed horses confined

\nuphill side of wet trails so as not to mar the entire trail during the winter.<\/p>\n

\ninactive for a variety of reasons. It seems that this is a problem that will
\nalways be with us. The Board is not willing at this time to take the position
\nthat we should take away the memberships of those who no longer meet some
\narbitrary standard of involvement with their horses. Most of our absent members
\nhave appointed a specific other member to look after their animals during their
\nabsence and have so informed the President. This is regarded as a responsible
\nand acceptable procedure.”<\/p>\n

\nbeen left unattended and collect from the owner at a later time. This
\ndiscussion led to the following: 1) Board to make sponsorship\/horse care
\nagreements more formal to deter further similar problems and 2) Collection of
\nmonies: Discussed collecting in advance for shots and worming with no
\nresolution. Motion passed (rule): “\u2026to collect work fees in advance
\nstarting this year. Work done can be deducted from the fee due the following
\nyear.” Although this had been attempted before it had not worked out
\nbecause at the time no records were kept.<\/p>\n

\ndirectly. A member of OHA who was also an attorney agreed to look into the
\nmatter and report back before the decision would be made by the general
\nmembership (not the Board).<\/p>\n

\n(rule) “Require 8 hours work hours (or $40.00) and allow the inclusion in
\nthe total of tasks such as telephoning, information-gathering and errand

\nadministrative hours and the physical work ones would be that such hours in
\nexcess of 8 would not be compensated by payment of $5.00 per hour, as is the
\ncase now for approved projects around the pasture.”<\/p>\n

\nAssociation as affiliate-members for the purpose of using the right-of-way
\nonly. They would, as such, be covered by insurance.”<\/p>\n
